Below photographer Colin Preston describes in his own words the inspiration behind his stunning dramatic images.
'Photography is a subject I became very interested in while in my early teens having been bought my first SLR camera as a Christmas present. I soon had a library of photographic reference books to learn from but it has only been within the last 10 years that I have decided to try and be a bit adventurous and to achieve something from it.
In 2006 I made the switch to digital with the Canon 5D but didn’t lose interest in film completely as I purchased a Pentax 67 medium format camera. My main camera now is the Canon 5D mark 2.
I try and practise my photography as much as possible which I do alongside my daytime job. I am self employed and this gives me good opportunities to get out and about with my gear.
I enjoy exploring my local patch to photograph but love to travel nationwide and have travelled to many parts of Europe as well as to Canada & South Africa.
Within the last 2 years I have been on photography workshops meeting professional photographers and learning from them. This experience has been very beneficial to me.
In 2013 and again the following year I exhibited some of my images at an art gallery in Staffordshire. This was a wonderful experience for me and the feedback I received from those exhibitions was very encouraging and gave me an appetite to exhibit again.
I now have the opportunity to exhibit at Cromford Studio & Gallery which I am very grateful for.
There are so many talented photographers both amateur and professional creating wonderful images on so many different subjects and I enjoy the challenge of trying to create images that capture the eye.'
