We are very happy to welcome two artists Rebecca Morledge and Sarah Burton, will bring a distant holiday atmosphere to the gallery this month as we ready ourselves for the summer season.
Rebecca Morledge is an extremely popular illustrator with her quirky take on Derbyshire and beyond:
‘People and landscapes fascinate me. I enjoy painting the parts of buildings that you can’t normally see, the complicated back buildings behind a classic facade, the rooftops and those very top floor windows that you would never normally notice.
My paintings are quite time consuming to create as there are so many stages involved. My aim is to give the viewer as much enjoyment from looking at my paintings as I get from making them.’
Sarah Burton produces contemporary decorative ceramic objects and vessels inspired by the sea, landscapes and organic forms.
After hand-throwing vases and bowls Sarah finishes each piece with a turned foot ring. Turquoise, blue/green and brown glazes are hand painted onto the biscuit fired pots, all overlapping to create more colour and a feeling of the movement of the sea.
Sarah started studying pottery in the late 1970’s, subsequently set up her own studio and after a career as an office Manager she became a full-time potter in 2011. Sarah’s pottery is found in galleries and craft fairs around the country.
Sarahs work will spill out into our courtyard at the rear of the gallery effectively doubling the floor space for you to enjoy.
We welcome visitors from Wednesday to Sunday 10 – 5 pm.
